Workshop Review 4 The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra - Named for the sacrum , the large fused bone attached to the lower spine which supports the pelvic girdle. In Sanskrit the chakra is Svadisthana, sweetness . Another meaning is 'the abode of the self'. This could refer to the belief that this energy centre governs our emotions, our immediate reactions to the world.

Svadisthana also represents the energies of sexuality, passion, creativity , flow, joy and playfulness

The animal associated with this chakra is the crocodile, the celestial body, the moon which governs the element of water, signifying the fluidity of emotional reaction.

Anchoring the energy of Svadisthana can help us to accept ourselves in all our grottiness and glory, acknowledging our subconscious needs. It calls us to honour and celebrate our desires , our creative impulse and the gift of our bodies.

We began the workshop sharing , a much celebrated poem Wild Geese by Mary Oliver .

Oliver is deservedly beloved of yoga and meditation teachers internationally . She brings a calm ,quiet, steady and often humorous beauty to her observations of the natural world. Wild Geese is the perfect 2nd Chakra poem ,examining themes of liberation , the interconnectedness of all things ,an acceptance and celebration of our animal nature and origin.

The we danced . Dance is a wonderful Svadisthana activity. We express our creativity with our bodies, we celebrate the freedom of movement that is encouraged by the changing rhythms we feel ,both inside and outside the body. We can shake off stale energy and experience a new vitality and radiance.

The Kriya we practiced - For Sexuality and Spirituality- awakens and distributes the energy of Svadisthana . It relaxes and stimulates and helps us locate our confidence and creative spark.

As part of the relaxation I invited participants to take part in a Crocodile Meditation . Lying on the belly in Makarasana - Crocodile Pose, we visualised our crocodile nature and what it would feel like to be a creature of huge desire and enormous power!

Writing in response to the session, Dagmar shared this beautiful piece which reflects the dreamlike and flowing qualities of Svadisthana energy . I love the mantra-like feel of this poem!

Fran wrote this poem ,full of a thoughtful energy generated by some of the exercises we shared

Hold your light in your hands,

lift,

see it scatter,

see it flow in murmurings in the space,

between your thoughts
